Annual Addictions Conference goes virtual

HARRISBURG, PA (June 17, 2020) – Dauphin County’s annual Addictions Conference is going virtual this year. Commissioners Jeff Haste, Mike Pries and George P. Hartwick, III and the county’s Department of Drug and Alcohol Services have created a new online portal for those who are interested in addiction prevention, intervention and treatment services or seeking PCB credits to virtually attend the conference.

“Continuing this learning opportunity and dialogue on new treatments and best practices is so important – even life-saving,” said Hartwick, who oversees Dauphin County Drug and Alcohol Services. “The only way to combat addiction is through education and tearing down the stigma that still surrounds the idea of getting help and expanding access to treatment.”

The one-hour presentations are as follows:

  • Best Practices for Prevention by Amy E. Sechrist
  • Gambling and the Effects on the Family by Nancy Milliron
  • Family Engagement and Programming by Patricia Gadsden
  • Online Gambling by Gregory Krausz
  • Employed and Impaired by Rachel Burdette
  • Update on Vaping and Other Issues Surrounding Tobacco Use by Eric E. Rothermel

Beginning June 23, these sessions will be available for free and accessible 24/7 at https://dauphincounty.sclivelearningcenter.com/MVSite/Default.aspx

“Drug and Alcohol Services didn’t miss a beat when it came to serving those in need during the coronavirus crisis,” said Haste, who chairs the board of commissioners. “Caseworkers continued to make contact with individuals by phone or virtual meeting to ensure no one fell through the cracks.”

Anyone who needs help with substance abuse can call 717-635-2254 or find resources at DauphinCounty.org.

“We appreciate our dedicated employees and presenters for putting together engaging, informative sessions,” said Pries. “Fighting the addiction epidemic will take all of us working together.”
