Volunteer Opportunities at Dauphin County Parks & Recreation!
 
We offer people many opportunities to volunteer for this County department. Families, teenagers and adults young and old are invited to help us with the activities that bring quality programs to the public and maintain our parks.

Assisting at Events: People are needed at events ranging from the Maple Sugar Festival and Fort Hunter Day to  Halloween activities. Many hands are needed to make events run smoothly. 
Help is needed for: 
- simple children's activities 
- greeting, giving information or directions 
- working at a food stand
- volunteer clearances will need to be obtained

Teaching School Workshops: From April to June and September-November, we are looking for people to teach our 1.5-hour Native American workshop for grades 2-5. The work is Tues.-Fri., from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Nature Center/Front Desk: Meet and greet visitors at the Nature Center. Answer telephones, conduct sales from the nature shop, and assist the professional staff as needed. Assist in the opening and/or closing of the Nature Center as well as monitoring activities within the exhibit hall.
 
Shop: Restock and display merchandise, maintain inventory records and plan for sales and special events.
 
Educational Programming: Assist the professional staff with the planning, organizing, and conducting of educational programs in the Nature Center and Park. 

Office and Clerical: Work on record keeping, typing, preparing mailings, and other office-related tasks.
 
Landscape Maintenance and Projects: Work in the developed areas of the Park and Nature Center to control and maintain planted vegetation.

Trail Trimmers: Maintain trails in the Park by clipping encroaching vegetation while maintaining a natural look. Monitor and alert the staff of potential safety hazards on trails and boardwalks. 

Speaker's Bureau: Conduct public relations presentations for community groups and organizations; help staff booths at fairs and other community events.
