The Dauphin County Hazardous Materials Response Team (DCHMRT), formed in 1995, maintains a state-level certification through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and functions as part of the Dauphin County Department of Public Safety. In addition to being certified through PEMA, the team is also recognized at the 75% level for the Participating Department Recognition Program through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.  For this listing, over 75% of the membership must have an active Pro-Board Certification, which is a nationally recognized standard for training.

The HazMat Team is comprised of both volunteers and career personnel who train regularly and respond together to mitigate hazardous situations throughout Dauphin County and assist neighboring agencies when called upon. The volunteers come from all walks of life, including firefighters, EMT’s, nurses, engineers, police officers, accountants, sales, industrial safety, military, entrainment, and construction to name a few. If you are interested in joining the team, reach out to the Department of Public Safety at dauphinEMA@dauphincounty.gov .
