Dauphin County goes blue on April 17 to show support for first responders, healthcare workers and everyone on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19

HARRISBURG, PA (April 13, 2020) – Dauphin County Commissioners Jeff Haste, Mike Pries and George P. Hartwick, III are asking residents to help show support for front-line responders by going blue on Friday, April 17.

“This crisis is unlike any other event that we have experienced in our lifetime,” said Haste. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated healthcare workers, first responders, store clerks, county employees and so many others who are on the front lines of this fight. Despite all the risks, they continue helping others, day after day.”

To show support, the Dauphin County Courthouse and Administration Building, both located in downtown Harrisburg on Market Street, will be lit in blue on April 17.

“It’s also National Telecommunicators’ Week, when we honor our 911 call-takers for the lifesaving work they do 24/7, 365,” said Pries, who oversees the county’s Public Safety Department. “You can show your support for all of our hometown heroes by wearing blue on Friday.”

The commissioners will honor the county’s telecommunicators with a proclamation and awards for providing life-saving aid by phone.

“Please join us in thanking our doctors, nurses, first responders and county employees who are risking their own health to care for the most vulnerable among us,” said Hartwick. “Their dedication is a true inspiration, and we are humbled by their sacrifice.”

Residents and businesses can participate and show support by wearing blue and posting a picture or video on social media and using the hashtag #DauphinCountyGoesBlue, pinning a blue ribbon, or printing a poster to display.
